“Surely you mean Julian Acreman,” commented one 729’er when I published details of our guest speaker from Drive & Survive. “It can’t be a woman who is coming to speak to us about safe driving!” And thus one of many myths about driving was set up to be dispelled by Julie Acreman who gave us a great visual presentation about the perils of driving whilst on business – perils not just for the driver but for the employer for whom they are driving.

Julie got over some good points (200 fatalities and serious injuries involving somebody at work occur on our roads every week) and statistics (only 4% of accidents take place on motorways) in an interactive and thought provoking session that extolled the benefits (reduced stress levels, reduced vehicle maintenance and fuel bills, reduced insurance premiums, reduced reputational risk etc. etc.) of training for drivers.

Whilst we had a good laugh at the expense of both women drivers (who can’t reverse park) and men (who all individually think that they are the best driver they know) we all found ourselves wincing at some of the facts and left with the knowledge that we could all improve our driving skills. All except Tim that is who on recently completing his “Speed Awareness Course” (a space was specially made available to him, courtesy of the local constabulary) who is now one of the safest drivers I know.

Thanks again to Julie for her thought provoking presentation. Should you be interested in following up with her at Drive & Survive see their website: www.drivesurvive.co.uk
