29 June 2007

The first ever Oxfordshire Mega Breakfast was a huge success with nearly 150 attendees descending upon the rather splendid Ditchley Park. The 729 Club joined forces with Banbury Business Breakfast and the Witney Bigger Breakfast Clubs to host the brekkie in aid of Oxfordshire Leonard Cheshire Home Appeal. We were treated to fantastic service and breakfast by caterers Chilli Pepper who managed to serve teas & coffees on arrival and throughout the morning and a tasty hot breakfast to the assembled 150 people in about 10 minutes flat!

Sir Digby Jones, former director of the CBI was the candid speaker of the morning and definitely did not fall short of surprises and amusement.

Sir Digby gave an excellent presentation about the ins and outs of the British Industry, as well as exclusively revealing his appointment as Minister of State for Trade and Investment. Sir Digby received the news from the new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown the night before and was going to be formally announced immediately after the breakfast.

He also exclusively revealed that he has been made a life peer and will be senior minister for business in the House of Lords.

A few members stayed on for lunch with The Oxford Networking Lunch Club to hear Boris Johnson explain that his political hero was not Magaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill or indeed Julius Caesar but rather the Mayor of Amity from the book and film Jaws – don’t ask!

Over £50,000 was raised on the day, which went towards the charity's much needed new home.

Many thanks for your generosity on the day.
